COFEE Better than Doughnuts for Cops
As many of you may know, I was a police officer in a former life (I don't recommend it for long periods of time; it turns the sweetest, most naive people into assholes and bitches). I chose the computer world to get away from people for awhile. I'm feeling much better now, but I still have a pretty rough edge sometimes.
I love it when my two careers intertwine. Local police agencies have been really slow on the uptake of the digital age and are still playing catch-up, and no, nothing is like it is on CSI! But now Microsoft is offering a FREE software tool for police to use to extract data from evidence computers. Instead of having to lug the whole thing in, they just insert the Computer Online Forensic Evidence Extractor (COFEE) into a USB port and they're off and running. The tool has over 150 commands for collecting information, decrypting passwords, and check network activity.
This won't keep police from having to take the computer, but it will help them narrow down whether there's anything on the computer worth taking.
Right now COFEE is in use by about 2,000 police officers world-wide, but Microsoft is apparently going to start distribution soon.
And it's nice that Microsoft didn't come up with an acronym like DONUTS (Digital ONline Unit for Trasmission Services?). OK, I should have done better than that. And, I only ate doughnuts once when I was on the job, and I went through the drive through!

Too funny! I personally LOVED your acronym. Get it patented ASAP!
