Kerpoof!
Awhile back I wrote a post about a web site called Kerpoof!. It’s an interactive online drawing playground for children, and it’s really fun.
Recently, Kerpoof was invited to participate in the TechCrunch40, and present their company to venture capitalists for funding. How awesome! I’m not sure how that has turned out for them yet, as those things take some time to work out, but I know during the show Krista and her group managed to find time to chat with a few investors.
Since blogging about them, they have added a feature to Kerpoof – movies! This is way fun. I’ve played around with it both with Little E and by myself Creating the movie isn’t difficult to do at all; however, you’ll have to read the directions to get it done. If your kids are as young as mine, that means they’ll walk away before you can finish reading – so check it out before inviting them along (at least that works best for me). The user interface has evolved some and new features have been added to the pictures as well. Oh, and don’t forget about the create a story feature.
All in all I think Kerpoof is a great online place for children to play. It allows them to be creative – and dare I say lets the really little ones get some fine motor experience by using the mouse. I believe it’s aimed at children a little older than mine (5 and 3), but not much. Little E, who’s 5, doesn’t have any problems using it. Little P doesn’t quite get the whole mouse thing yet, but he loves adding things to the pictures! Little E has made a movie (exploding bomb blowing up an alien), and it provided a good half-hour of entertainment after the movie was made (watching it over and over again).
One thing is for certain: I prefer them creating their own stories to spending the time on YouTube watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reruns!
