Never Buy Gas or Change Oil Again
There is actually a completely electric car out there. I've read about it, but never have taken the time to look at it until yesterday. It's called the Tesla Roadster, and boy, is it HOT. This baby is completely electric; there's no oil, and only one moving part. The engine is, according to the website, the size of a watermelon.
This thing boasts 0 - 60 acceleration in "about four seconds". WOW. That beats the heck out of my Nissan Quest, which has a Maxima engine (in other words, it will get you into just about any moving traffic without problem). I've tried several times to get my tachometer to red line (at a minimum of 6000), but I was only successful once. Anyway, you get the point.
The car is beautiful, too. It's a two-seater and you can order it with just about anything you want. The great thing is that you plug it into the wall to charge it. It will apparently charge in about 3.5 hours; not too bad unless you're on a long trip and don't want to go shopping. But, the battery will supposedly go 250 miles without a charge, so at least you only have to stop about every 3 - 4 hours. This might get us to Disney from home.
Like all roadsters, though, it is a two-seater. So, unless your children have moved out or you don't use this car for soccer practise, it's not terribly practical for Mommies. But it looks oh-so-sweet. I looked at the base model price tag - $92,000. That's more than I care to spend on any car, but I guess once you figure in the fact that you never have to buy gas or change the oil, it's probably less expensive than it seems. Plus, it's a highly polished sports car, so given that it isn't expensive at all.
If I had long hair, I'd love to let the top down and drive this baby around.
